Q&A with Bill Golden CEO, IntelligenceCareers.com
Question:
I am active duty military and about half-way through a normal military career. I also have a current and active TS/SCI and CI-Poly security clearance.
I was charged with a felony back in the early 2000s and acquitted. The acquittal was documented by the military as part of my security clearance investigation.
Will that felony charge prevent me from landing a civilian job?
Answer:
No, the felony charge will not prevent you from getting a civilian job. However, you should be prepared to discuss whatever caused the charge. Don’t volunteer information. Keep it brief and factual only when and if asked.
If you were charged and acquitted ~ regardless of whether charges were just dropped or it went to court ~ then it is probable that it will not appear on your record when a background check is done.
ALWAYS be proactive and do your own background check. It is easy to get information on yourself that an employer would see ~ do your own background check.
The background checks that you can do on yourself are no different than an employer would conduct on you.
